Peace Corps Email From My PO

I sent the following email to my PO on 2/25-the day I received my invitation:

Hello, I received my invitation today!!  I know the placement office stays pretty busy, so I’ll keep this short.  I have just have two quick questions…

1. I read the assignment description for the Resource Specialist position, and I just wanted to make sure that I understand my position.  The description says that one of the secondary projects includes computer literacy classes.  However, I believe you told me on the phone that computer literacy classes would be my primary project right?

2. The front cover of the assignment book says that PST is July 15th.  However, there will be a staging before this in the states right?  Can I expect that staging will be around July 10th, and I might be expecting to board a flight to staging around July 9th? Just asking so that I know when to tell my family and current employer exactly when I’m leaving….I plan on working up until a few days before I leave.

Thanks again for all your help, and especially for the invitation.  I will be accepting the invitation in the next day or two.

I received the following reply today from my PO:

My apologies for this delayed response!  To clarify, your primary duties will be in computer literacy, and the integration of ICT skills into the classroom.  You could be working with teachers, school directors, students and/or community members on ICT related programming.  Regarding staging dates: The staging for this training class is scheduled for July 15-17. Staging will occur at a major city in the US (usually this is DC, NY or Philadelphia for training classes that are departing to Africa, but this can vary depending on flight availability).  Your pre-service training will be held in South Africa from July 18-September 11, and your formal Peace Corps Volunteer service will begin on September 12.  It looks like some of those dates were inputted into the wrong fields on the Assignment Description, so again, my apologies for the confusion. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and congratulations on your invitation for service.
